Course Description

Art History is a survey course of the art and architecture from various cultures of humankind. First semester covers Prehistoric through the Gothic. Second semester covers Late Gothic through the present day. During class we view visual images and discuss their history from multiple points of view (political, motivational, artistic...). The class is 70-80% lecture format. Reading should be completed before each class to enhance the student's understanding and ability to participate in discussions. Students will be able to identify and discuss orally and in writing significant people, artist, artwork and events relevant to the time periods being studied. Art History is available at the high school level, Advanced Placement level or as a dual college enrollment class. (Please talk to instructor for more information.)
